The town was named
“Confluence” because the Youghiogheny River, Casselman River and Laurel
Hill Creek come together in the town. The town is surrounded by some of
the highest mountains in Pennsylvania, including the highest, Mount
Davis at 3,213 ft above sea level. The town is bordered to the south by
the 2,840 acre Youghiogheny River Lake and to the north by the 19,052
acre Ohiopyle State Park. The Youghiogheny River was designated as Pennsylvania's River of the Year by the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. 'River of the Year'
ReserveAmerica has named the
Youghiogheny Outflow Campground in Confluence as one of America's Top
100 Family Campgrounds of 2006.
The only campground in
Pennsylvania to make the list.
